Full rules

  1. Eligibility. Open only to Nigerian students aged 13 to 22. You must be enrolled in a recognised school or tertiary institution, or able to prove student status if asked. Timivra staff and immediate family of judging staff cannot win prize money.
  2. Free entry. There is no entry fee. You do not need a paid Timivra subscription to enter.
  3. One entry per person per month. Extra emails from the same person in the same month will be ignored. Using multiple emails or fake identities to submit more than once is grounds for disqualification.
  4. Word limit. The essay body must be 50 words or fewer. Hyphenated words count as one word. Numbers count as words. If your essay is over 50 words, it will not be judged.
  5. Topic. Your essay must answer the published monthly topic. Off topic entries will not be judged. Topics change each calendar month.
  6. Original work. The essay must be written by you. Plagiarism, copying classmates, or recycling published work without clear disclosure will lead to disqualification.
  7. No AI. Do not use ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, or any other AI writing tool to draft, rewrite, expand, or polish your essay. AI assistance of any kind is banned. Suspected AI use will be checked and will result in immediate disqualification, including removal of any prize already offered for that entry.
  8. Language and tone. Entries must be in English. Keep language respectful. Hate speech, harassment, or illegal content will be rejected.
  9. Submission method. Email only to info@timivra.com using the required format. Attachments are not required and are not preferred. Social media DMs, WhatsApp messages, and other channels do not count as official entries.
  10. Judging. Entries are judged on clarity, originality, honesty, relevance to the topic, and strength of the idea within 50 words. Grammar helps, but a real story beats perfect English. Timivra’s decision is final.
  11. Winners and prizes. Each month Timivra awards ₦10,000 (1st), ₦7,000 (2nd), and ₦3,000 (3rd). Winners are normally announced within the first 10 days of the following month via email and may also be announced on Timivra’s social channels. Prizes are paid in Nigerian naira after identity and student status checks. Timivra may withhold a prize if an entry breaks these rules.
  12. Publication. By entering, you give Timivra permission to publish your first name, school (optional), and essay on Timivra’s website, email, or social media if you place or are featured. We will not publish your phone number.
  13. Privacy. Contact details are used only to run the competition, verify winners, and pay prizes. See Timivra’s Privacy Policy for general data practices.
  14. Changes. Timivra may update topics, deadlines, or rules for future months. Material changes for an active month will be posted on this page.
